| "I'm 51 years old and I want to look the best I can. I chose New River Aesthetics because others told me that Dr. Hurd and his staff were very patient and would spend time with me explaining everything before the procedure. They were right, and I was so pleased with my results! I feel so much more self-confident, instead of feeling so self-conscious." - Cathy Mullen, New River Valley | |
When it's as important as your skin, experience mattersAll aesthetic treatments are not created equal, so don't take risks with your appearance. When it comes to the care of your skin, there is a vast difference between "technicians" working in a spa and the highly trained medical staff of New River Aesthetics.
You wouldn't go to a "technician" for your dental work, eye surgery, or to fix a broken arm. Why would you trust anyone but an experienced dermatologist and his highly trained staff to treat your skin -- the largest and most visible organ of your body?
You can go to a spa or salon to have a procedure done, or you can come to New River Aesthetics, where skilled professionals make all the difference in your results. Think of it like fine art. Anyone can go to the store and buy the same paint, but it is the hands of the artist that make something a masterpiece.
Dr. Daniel HurdDr. Hurd is the only board certified dermatologist in the New River Valley and points west in Virginia.
He and his medical staff don't try to sell patients "the latest fad" in aesthetic treatment. They are knowledgeable about current treatments and technologies, and use a consultative approach to educate you about your best options for getting the results you want, as well as their benefits and potential risks.
Dr. Hurd is board certified by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. He has studied under world-renowned dermatologic and Mohs skin cancer surgeons and laser specialists, and has received numerous national awards for his medical lectures and research.
He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Nurse PractitionersA nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced academic and clinical experience, which enables him or her to diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, either independently or as part of a health care team. At New River Aesthetics, our nurse practitioners not only perform aesthetic procedures, but can also examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment for most skin conditions. Barbara Miller, RN, FNP Barbara is a family nurse practitioner who is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is also a member of the Virginian Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and the Dermatology Nursing Association.
She has been in the medical field since 1980 and specifically in dermatology since 2002. Previously, she worked in rehabilitation medicine and also as an obstetrical nurse manager for a hospital.
She was drawn to medicine because of her passion for helping patients, and she enjoys interacting with new people every day. What she finds the most rewarding about aesthetic dermatology is the way it changes people's perceptions of themselves and how it makes them feel so much better.
Barbara received her nursing degree at the State University of New York at Delhi and her family nurse practitioner degree at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Susan Gaither, NP Susan is a nurse practitioner. She got started in the medical profession in 1998 because of her love of taking care of others. She also enjoys the challenge of constantly learning new things in the ever-changing field of medicine.
Prior to joining New River Aesthetics full time in 2007, she was an emergency room nurse in Princeton, West Virginia. She was also a travel nurse in emergency rooms in Tampa, Florida, prior to that. She found she was drawn to the specialty of dermatology and its complexities and had to make it her full-time career.
The aspect that she likes best about working in aesthetic dermatology is the variety of ages of the patients with whom she gets to work. She enjoys encouraging people and helping them feel better about themselves. She feels patients who have aesthetic work done in general have improved overall health. When you feel good about yourself mentally, she says, you take better care of yourself physically.
Susan received her nursing degree at Bluefield State College and her masters in nursing from Radford University. Debra Farley, RN, Licensed Master Esthetician Debra is a registered nurse and licensed master esthetician. She became interested in skin care while she was in the United States Air Force. After receiving an honorable discharge, she enrolled in skin care school in Louisiana and continues to be licensed in the field of esthetics.
She graduated from Angelo State University in 1997 with her registered nursing degree and has held positions such as clinical team leader and charge nurse at various hospitals.
Prior to joining New River Aesthetics in August 2008, she worked for several years at a day spa in the New River Valley.
Debra has many years experience in skin care and says she loves to make people look and feel more beautiful.
